I'm Eating What???!!






More and more information is starting to come out regarding what is really in our food and what isn't on the food labels!

By now you may have heard about the yoga mat materials in Subway sandwich breads as well as other fast food breads and muffins. But it might surprise you to you know about some of the other "hidden" ingredients in foods you are probably still eating every day...

Beaver Anal Secretions: Listed under ingredients as Castoreum.

How we consume it:  Vanilla flavored treats. It is widely used as a substitute for vanilla flavoring.

Human Hair: Listed under ingredients as L-Cysteine. Often it is combined with duck feathers.

How we consume it: Bagels and cakes. It is used as a flavor enhancer.

Coal Tar: Listed under ingredients as Food Coloring. It is the byproduct of carbonized coal.

How we consume it: Almost any artifically-dyed food.

Anti-Freeze: Listed under ingredients as Propylene Glycol. It is used as a thickening agent.

How we consume it: Salad dressing.

Flame Retardant: Listed under ingredients as Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO). The active ingredient, bromine, is widely used as a flame retardant in furniture.

How we consume it: Citrus-flavored soda.

Biodiesel Additive: Listed under ingredients as Tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ).

How we consume it: Chicken nuggets, but it is a preservative that is widely used in everything from bubble gum to cheese crackers.

Sand: Listed under ingredients as Silicon Dioxide. It is added to foods as an anti-clumping agent.

How we consume it: Salts, soups and more.

Jet Fuel Additive: Listed under ingredients as Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). It is added as a preservative.

How we consume it: Cereal.

Borax: Listed under ingredients as E285. It is added as a preservative.

How we consume it: Caviar.

The sad fact is, we might never really know what's in a lot of the foods we are eating. That's why it's so important to do the best you can by eating primarily whole, fresh foods that are unprocessed and organic.
