Why Go Green??

So, what's the big deal about "green drinks?" Why drink something that looks (and sometimes tastes) like your front lawn???  Are there really health benefits, or is this just more of a fad that will fade and be replaced with something else?? What do you think?

I am often asked about what I start my day with, so I decided to take a picture of my "breakfast." ( I will give you the recipe at the end of this blog). I will give you a few more popular recipes as well...

Why Go Green??  Here are some of the reasons:

  • Are you someone who finds it challenging to eat your vegetables every day?? Juicing them is a great way to get the veggies your body needs, even if you're someone who doesn't normally "like" eating vegetables or just doesn't want to take the time to make a big salad.
  • Green drinks are a great source of minerals and vitamins.
  • Helps boost your immune system.
  • Antioxidants in the veggies help support healthy cells and protects them from free radicals that can damage them.
  • Helps to balance blood sugar and provides long lasting energy for the day.
  • Raw juices contain biophotons - light rays of energy that plants get from the sun. Pasteurized juices do NOT. The more light a food is able to store, the more nutritious it is.

If you're just starting out on a juicing routine, you might want to invest in a really good blender like a Vitamix. Not all juicers are created equal and the key to healthy juicing is to make sure you are also getting the pulp and fiber. If you have a juicer that seperates out the pulp, you are actually losing one of the key benefits because the fiber in the veggies and fruits are vital to your health. Fiber also helps to make you feel full and can even support healthy weight loss as a result.

If you want your drink a bit sweeter, you also have the option of adding low glycemic fruits such as organic frozen berries or apples. Other options for enhancing your drink can include: Fresh chopped ginger (great as an anti-inflammatory), protein powder, chia seeds, flax seeds or coconut oil. These will boost the nutritional value and give you more of a smoothie feel rather than a "juice." It's up to you. Play around with recipes and find one that you like. The important thing is to make a variety of greens  a part of your daily diet. Whether it's a breakfast drink or a pick me up during the day, going green will be one of the best things you can do to support your health and give you an energy boost!

That's it for now - until next time,

"Live Now - Live Well!"

My "Recipe"

1/2 cup-3/4 cup water OR coconut milk OR almond milk; 1/2 cup frozen organic spinach (Trader Joe's has a good one); 1/4 cup frozen organic blueberries (Trader Joe's); 1 bunch of fresh organic parsely; 1 large leaf of organic kale; 1/2 organic green apple. I also add protein powder and maca. (Feel free to write me if you want details on types of protein, maca or have any other questions). By the way, I must admit I don't usually measure things, so use your own judgement depending on how much you want to make. :-)

Could you recommend a good protein powder?
What is maca?

It tastes so much better than it looks. When I drink one of these green drinks I FEEL so much healthier, which is an added bonus.
I like it best with the added fruit.
